Fuel Scrubbing (Polishing) Service
In the CSA 282-15 guidelines at section B.24 (Table 5, Item 4 b) states that:
Diesel fuel has a limited storage life depending upon initial fuel quality, contaminant levels, and storage conditions. To extend fuel life, it is recommended that periodic filtering and treatment of the fuel be conducted to remove water, scale, and bacterial growth. Where possible, fuel stored outdoors and supplying emergency generator sets should be non-seasonal to avoid pour point and cloud point issues associated with long-term diesel storage. Where bio-diesel or ultra low sulphur diesel is used, further precautions might be necessary and the manufacturer(s) should be consulted. When fuel is being filtered, the following procedures should be followed:
- The fuel should be filtered to a maximum particulate size of 20 μ (micron) and the filter media should be capable of removing water.
- The fuel (if it is being recirculated in the same tank when being filtered) should be filtered for a period of time at least three times longer than the period necessary to process the volume of fuel in the tank once. For example, if the volume of fuel is X and the filter unit will process X volume in 30 min, the filter unit should be run for at least 1.5 h. This will achieve a reasonably good level of filtration. At the same time, an effort should be made to agitate the fuel and any contamination at the bottom of the tank to ensure treatment.
- Provision should be made by the designers and installers of the fuel tank(s) for easy access to the fuel by the filter unit suction and return probes, with sufficient overhead clearance above the tank(s) and also suitable blank plugs or similar devices in the top(s) of the tank(s) for the probes to be easily inserted without extensive work.
What does all this mean? If your diesel fuel is old or contaminated, you need to clean it by running it through a 20 μ (micron) filter and add a stabilizing additive.
What do we do here at GenerSys Inc.? We go well beyond the minimum recommendations because we understand the value of your fuel. We also understand how improperly filtered and treated fuel can wear out and possibly damage your engines injection pump and injectors.
Products that emulsify or disperse water into the fuel are usually alcohol or solvent based and can further damage key system components by allowing water to pass through the fuel water separator. Since water is abrasive, it tends to score or wear down the close metal to metal tolerance of the injection system causing smoke and increases fuel consumption.
We filter your fuel through a 3 filter / water separating process, starting with a 30 μ (micron) filter then to a 10 μ (micron) filter and finally through a 2 μ (micron) filter. Hold on though, we're not done! During the final stages of the filtering process, we also treat your fuel with a treatment that:
- Prevents diesel fuel from gelling and safely removes water from diesel fuel without using alcohol or other harmful solvents
- It also increases power and fuel economy
- Cleans and lubricates fuel injectors
- Eliminates smoking and rough idle
- Safe and effective in all diesel and biodiesel blends to B-20
- It's also particulate friendly and warranty safe
- Lowers the cold filter plugging point of your base fuel by providing superior cold weather performance and is much more cost effective than blending with kerosene
Wow, we use the good stuff!
